Seismic Games is a new Los Angeles based games developer with their eye firmly on the free-to-play social networking game market. They've raised $2 million USD in conjunction with DFJ Frontier and a series of investors and will use the money to create: "free-to-play games with wide appeal for digital platforms including social networks such as Facebook."

They'll be going up against the giants like Zynga for a share in the market, but they say they're up to it. With an experienced executive team that includes CEO Greg Borrud (co-founder of Pandemic Studios - a studio bought up by EA in 2007 for a whopping $860 million), Eric Gewirtz (Star Wars: Battlefront 1 & 2) and Chris Miller (formly of Vivendi), they are bullish about their chances.

Scott Lenet, co-founder and managing director or DFJ Frontier said: "Seismic Games has the vision, knowledge and experienced team required to execute best-in-class social games that resonate with an active and growing online user base. The launch of its first game will shake up the status quo of the social gaming market and reveal an incredibly powerful engine for collaboration with branded entertainment properties."

We'll have to wait and see if their confidence is warranted when their yet-to-be-announced game arrives sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
