So there's plenty of new details out now with regards to Epic Games' Fortnite. Here's the major talking points from the latest issue of Game Informer, in a nutshell.

It's not going to be story-driven, instead it'll focus on bashing demons that spawn from giant storm clouds. The demons can be repelled by a device called Atlas that closes portal gates and stops the storms.

There's going to be three different campaigns (10, 20, and 50 hours in length), and each is made up of procedurally-generated stages, full of destructible bits and pieces. Players will have to co-operate and defend the portal gates and will only survive the night if they manage to close them. During the day they'll be fixing the damage, and all of this will be played out in Epic' trademark over-the-shoulder third-person perspective.

Fort building will involve a variety of different materials (wood, stone, metal) and the creation of walls, windows and floors, that sort of thing. You'll also be able to create more complex items, such as auto-turrets, poisonous gas clouds and spiked panels. And then there's the crafting of weapons, with players starting off with a basic plank-nail combo, before finding new materials and blueprints and upgrading their gear.

So far there's four character classes that have been detailed. Ninja sounds fun with a double-jump and melee skills, Constructor can build faster and for less, Commando is a bit of an all-rounder, while the Scavenger is best at gathering resources. By the sounds of it, combining up the different classes will help players become more efficient as they work together, which they'll need to do to succeed.

More classes will be added as time goes on, and there'll be a level cap of 20. As mentioned yesterday, Fortnite is going to be free-to-play (though there's no details on how that'll be implemented), and will feature drop-in and drop-out co-op. More details when we have them.
