A Star Wars game starring Darth Maul was in development for several months before being cancelled, it has emerged.

The game, which looked a lot like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (and was being developed by Red Fly Studios, who ported Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II to Wii), was cancelled after eight months of development.

According to a report in the latest issue of Game Informer, the Darth Maul game was originally planned as a Nintendo exclusive, before development was shifted to PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.

They also mention that Red Fly were prototyping when George Lucas weighed in and suggested a "buddy co-op experience" with Darth Maul and Darth Talon. Sounds like a strange mix if you ask us.

The game was cancelled in 2011, and since then much has happened when it comes to Star Wars-based video games. At the end of 2012 Disney bought Lucasfilm and the Star Wars IP with it.

Since then Disney has teamed up with EA in a deal that'll see the publisher creating a selection of Star Wars themed games, while Star War 1313 was also loose following the acquisition.
