According to a new report, Borderlands is getting a pre-sequel, with a new game alleged to be in development at 2K Australia and set on Pandora's moon.

The report, from GamePointsNow, confidently claims that the game will launch on old-gen consoles (Xbox 360/PS3) this year, and will include four new characters; Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and Fragtrap.

The game, which is said to fit snuggly in the five year gap between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, will feature some returning faces. Athena is said to be a melee fighter who first appeared in expansion The Secret Armoury of General Knoxx, while Fragtrap will remind players of Claptrap and Wilhelm was a boss in Borderlands 2.

The setting, said to be Pandora's moon and featuring low gravity combat, will feature limited supplies of oxygen, and will apparently see players journey to the H-shaped base that orbits the planet in Borderlands 2. The report also mentions new weapons classes, including laser and cryo-freezing weapons, and jetpacks.

Apparently this still unannounced game is coming out in 2014, although there's no official word from 2K or Gearbox. It's also news that follows hot on the heels of a tease from Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, who suggested last week that a next-gen announcement from the Borderlands studio would be on the way sometime this year.
