An interesting Kickstarter campaign just launched, with a studio called Rosebud Games asking the crowd for funds so they can bring Death in Candlewood to market at some point in early 2015.

It might be the studio's first title, but there's some pedigree in there for sure, with past credits for the devs including Silent Hill, The Witcher, F.E.A.R., and with consultation coming from Jay Kyburz - the lead level designer for Bioshock.

"Death In Candlewood combines inventive gameplay with romantic storytelling and sets it all in a gorgeously realised world. A brutal, beautiful shooter," said Kyburz in the press release accompanying the announcment.

"After years of working on horror games, we decided to spend our energy and resources creating a game which evokes intense emotions of fear, love, joy and sadness," said company co-founder Toni Sanchez. "Death In Candlewood aims to make the player really feel.  We want each location to be full of emotive, memorable features and through every detail build a ghoulish, romantic story in the player's mind."

We're being promised an open-world (10km2) psychological FPS set in 1940s America, with influences including Edgar Allan Poe and "classic horror films". The story is set to span a single night in the life of the game's protagonist, Ray Dune, as he searches for his missing adopted son.

Death in Candlewood - which will see the player using "uncommon" weapons, driving cars and bikes, swimming and fighting "inhuman assailants" - is set to land on PC in spring 2015. Rosebud are hoping to release on Mac and Linux, and there's mention of Oculus Rift too. The Kickstarter campaign is chasing after $60k, and more details can be found here.
