Brandon Boyer, the chairman of the Independent Games Festival, has been forced to ask the crowd for funding, as he aims to raise money for his ongoing cancer treatment.
Boyer, who was diagnosed with cancer last year, had a health insurance policy, but due to a technicality (he failed to report minor stomach aches before seeking medical help) his claim has been denied and he's been left with a sizable bill - a hundred thousand dollars worth according to his post.
"I had the misfortune of being self-employed and sick in America in 2013," he said, reflecting that had his diagnosis happened a few months later, the new Health Insurance Marketplace would likely have had him covered.
At the time of writing Boyer has raised nearly $78k. Donations can be made here.
Update: There is a Humble Bundle Devolver Digital Double Debut campaign running where you can donate your payment to Boyer's treatment.
