Activision are closing down Call of Duty: Elite, the social network and stat tracking service introduced to the shooter series with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

The service was used again for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and while it was available for Call of Duty: Ghosts, most gamers have gravitated towards the new Clan Wars system. The Call of Duty app is also intended to replace the outgoing service, which will close down on February 28 (at 10am PST).

"There are no plans to bring Call of Duty Elite back," a statement explained. "We encourage fans to download the Call of Duty app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which allows players to customise their multiplayer character and weapons loadouts on the go, keep track of their Call of Duty: Ghosts stats, and features Call of Duty Clan Wars, where players can compete for cool, exclusive in-game gear."

Elite users who've logged in since January 1 of this year will receive two hours of Double XP in Call of Duty: Ghosts. The Double XP will "show up in your Call of Duty: Ghosts profile soon," according to a Q&A posted by Activision.
