Konami's long-running football series is about to undergo some major changes according to Konami Europe chief Shinji Hirano.
In the latest edition of trade magazine MCV, Hirano confirmed that it would be a "transitional year for the franchise" and that the next PES would be "totally changed" as the series is "ready to make a comeback".
"I cannot give details on exactly what we are doing with the UK studio, but they are working on the next project and looking at the needs of the European people. It's about globalising the franchise, so it is not just being developed by Japanese people," he said.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 skipped a next-gen release last year, instead focussing on making a concerted effort to finish this current generation with a flourish. Konami are clearly expecting big things from the next game in the series as they target the next-gen market.
"We know what's been going wrong with PES, we are working on that. The next version is totally changed. 2014 is a transitional year for the franchise, so expect big things," Hirano concluded.
