Key members of the Nintendo hierarchy are taking significant pay cuts following the recent financial results posted by the company.
President Satoru Iwata stands to take a 50% pay cut, while Shigeru Miyamoto and Genyo Takeda both stand to take home 30% less. Other directs will get a 20% reduction.
These pay cuts come after Nintendo posted their latest financial results. In the last three quarters the platform holder shifted 2.41 million Wii U consoles, with profits taking a 30% dip. Overall the Wii U has sold 5.86 million units and 29.37 million games (3DS has sold 42.74 million and 152.29 million games).
Nintendo slashed Wii U sales forecasts earlier in the month. The company are saying that lower than expected demand for the console is responsible for the current situation.
"The Wii U hardware still has a negative impact on Nintendo's profits owing mainly to its markdown in the United States and Europe, and sales of software, which has high profit margins, did not grow sufficiently," said the company.
Over the holiday period Nintendo sold over 1 million units of their big Wii U releases, including Super Mario 3D World, Wii Party U, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.
