Microsoft have responded to the story about a Machinima promotion deal for Xbox One officially, and basically said they were unaware of the clause that dictated channel operators only to post positive videos about Xbox One in order to qualify for the additional funds.
"Microsoft was not aware of individual contracts Machinima had with their content providers as part of this promotion and we didn't provide feedback on any of the videos. We have asked Machinima to not post any additional Xbox One content as part of this media buy and we have asked them to add disclaimers to the videos that were part of this program indicating they were part of paid advertising."
It's an interesting response seeing as Machinima would have to officially confirm that content perceived as their normal offerings are in fact paid for advertising - it could also damage the reputation of those Youtubers who took the deal.
