Two of the biggest retailers in the country, Amazon and Argos, have today reduced the price of Wii U significantly.

Earlier today Argos dropped the price of the 32GB and 8GB console to £179.99 (that's £120 off the Premium 32GB and £70 off the 8GB Starter). Since making that move Amazon has followed suit and is also offering the Premium console for £179.99.

GAME has kept their Wii U consoles priced at £229.99, so it's still unclear whether this is price drop is going to manifest itself across all areas of retail, or even if it's a short-term discount to clear excess stock from Christmas, but it has been confirmed by Nintendo that it's not an official price cut (via VG247).

These reductions follow the recent announcement that Nintendo are slashing sales and profit forecasts after a difficult year for the platform holder and their flagship console.
