Take-Two has confirmed that Turtle Rock's recently announced shooter, Evolve, is already available to pre-order from retailers ahead of its planned release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC later this year.

"Evolve will be a generation-defining multiplayer experience. As our first new IP for next-gen systems, 2K is working with Turtle Rock Studios to deliver a game that's instantly entertaining and impossible to put down," said 2K Games' Christoph Hartmann.

The press release detailed a few new gameplay details, including the unconventional 4v1 mechanic that sounds like it'll set the game apart from other, similar titles:

Evolve expertly blends cooperative and competitive multiplayer experiences as a team of four hunters face off against a single, player-controlled monster. Set on an alien planet in the distant future, gamers hunt their prey in adrenaline-pumping 4V1 matches. Players experience Evolve as a first-person shooter when playing cooperatively as the four hunters, while they control the monster in the third-person perspective, providing a gameplay experience unique to Evolve.

"Our philosophy is to build incredibly fun game experiences that we can't find anywhere else," Turtle Rock co-founder Chris Ashton said in the press release. "Evolve's co-op vs. lone wolf formula has created some of the most intense multiplayer matches we've ever experienced."

The game is the next title to be developed by the studio behind Left 4 Dead, and was originally to be released by THQ until the publisher went bankrupt. Take-Two snapped up the rights at auction, and have now confirmed Evolve will be coming this autumn. Pre-orders will include the Monster Expansion Pack, which itself will include a skin for the Savage Goliath and a new character that'll be available post-launch.
