Valve has launched SteamVR, a new experimental VR mode that supports Oculus Rift. The VR headset is still not available in a consumer format, but plenty of developer units are out in the wild following the successful Kickstarter campaign for the tech.

"As of the most recent Steam Client Beta, Steam now supports an experimental VR mode", wrote Valve's Joe Pudwig in the post. "If you own an Oculus Rift dev kit you can try it out by starting Steam with "-vr" on the command line. Then press the Big Picture button to enter Big Picture + VR mode."

SteamVR was detailed on the Steam Community Forums, where instructions on how to get started are available for those already in possession of the tech. The rest of us, those who are waiting for the consumer version to land in retailers, still have a little while to wait.
