Publisher 2K is closing down their Prague-based studio and are restructuring their operation. What this means for the Mafia devs remains unclear.

Some staffers are being relocated to the other Czech-based studio in Brno, while others are heading over to the company's California studio.

The studio, which created the PC game Mafia 2, was thought to be working on Mafia III for PC and next-gen consoles. If those reports were indeed true, the fate of that title now remains a mystery.

"We have relocated and consolidated our 2K Czech team from our Prague facility to centralise resources in our Brno studio," a 2K representative told CVG. "Additionally, we are transferring some development resources from both Prague and Brno to 2K headquarters in Novato, California. This transition will both strengthen the integration of the 2K Czech team with our award winning development teams, and better align cross-functional business practices. As part of this realignment, we are adjusting our staffing levels, resulting in the elimination of some positions."

Update: The often well informed Superannutation has done some digging that points to 2K San Francisco, the new studio headed by Rod Fergusson (Bioshock Infinite, Gears of War), taking over development or rather starting afresh. It could also be that certain key devs from 2K Czech will join the San Francisco studio.
