Halfbrick Studios (Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja) has announced a release date for their next game, Colossatron: Massive World Threat. The new title is heading to iOS and Android devices worldwide on December 19.

The game puts players in control of the titular Colossatron, a being from space intent on destroying planet Earth. ‘Powercores' drop from space and players are tasked with assigning them to various slots on the "rolling fortress" and maximising the damage dealt to your pesky human adversaries.

The press release details a couple of examples of how the mechanic will work: "combining red and blue creates a purple Powercore. Matching three yellows together creates an even more powerful Supercore. Where should the shields be placed? Which power is active for green - proximity repair or plasma cannon? There are thousands of combinations, and each game will play out entirely differently. This is not tower defence - this is tower offence!"

Players will be able to blast their way through seven continents, taking on General Moustache and his experimental weapons as they go. Described as "simple, yet incredibly strategic", Colossatron will be heading to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via the App Store, and to Android devices via Google Play.
