It's widespread knowledge that every Xbox One console has the potential to be converted into a dev kit, but Microsoft are warning gamers that steps recently explained on YouTube are not sufficient on their own to convert a console. In fact, according to the platform holder, those that flirt with this process run the risk of bricking their Xbox One.
In a statement sent to Engadget, Microsoft warned users that consoles that are converted in the manner described may become unusable:
"Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults."
