Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts and his Star Citizen project is doing well. Really well. The crowdfunding effort has now reached $30 million in collected funds. The stretch goal unlocked the The Origin 890 JUMP super yacht.
In a letter from the chairman Roberts announces:
"Now it's time to vote for the $33 million stretch goal ship! We have three manufacturers left, so choose wisely. And thank you, truly, for making this all possible. Let's make sure no one ever forgets that when publishers wouldn't spend a cent on AAA PC games, real gamers went above and way, way beyond to make Star Citizen happen."
Clearly, Star Citizen has managed to get people engaged in a way few other games come even close to. Remains to be seen how the game turns out, but at least with this kind of funding there's a chance for greatness.
