If you're handy with the soldering iron and what to use your third party headset with Xbox One instead of the one supplied with the console there are ways to make this work even without the headset adapter that's set to arrive at some point next year.

Kotaku reports on a reader who managed to make it work by disassembling the Xbox One headset and had the following to say:

"I simply opened up the headset connector, de-soldered the standard headset and soldered a 3.5 mm jack cable to the same points. It looks like a product you might buy in a store, and it should work with any headset."

"It took around 15 minutes to complete."

Another handy Xbox One owner put together this easy to follow (if you have the basic know-how) guide for how to go about making your headset compatible with Xbox One.
