The rumours have finally been confirmed, as the leak of an Overwatch-themed case for the Nintendo Switch has been followed by an official announcement that Blizzard's game is hitting the Nintendo Switch on October 15, as part of the Legendary Edition.

This is described as the "definitive version" of the shooter, including all 31 heroes and some new features exclusively for the Switch, like gyro motion controls to shoot enemies with, "pilot D.Va through the air, or quickly turn to deflect incoming projectiles as Genji".

"Overwatch brings players together to cooperate and compete in a bright and optimistic vision of the future, and we're looking forward to welcoming Nintendo Switch gamers into the fun," said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard Entertainment. "The Legendary Edition includes more than three years' worth of content updates and gameplay enhancements, and we're excited to team up with Nintendo to provide players with new ways to enjoy the full Overwatch experience—including on the go."

A boxed version will be available, as well as a digital edition for a suggested price of $39.99 USD (£34.99, €39.99), with both including 15 bonus skins and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online membership. Those who pre-purchase also get the Noire skin for Widowmaker, and those who log in by December 31 will get a bonus Golden Loot Box too, featuring at least one Legendary item.
