We had a quick chat with Team17's Danny Spiteri about what's on the horizon for the charming co-optional cooking game Overcooked 2 with the DLC Campfire Cook Off coming soon.
"As the name might suggest it's all set within the woods at a camping ground and it brings loads of new levels, I think fifteen new levels. There are four new chefs that you can play as so we've got a beaver, an owl, a bear and a girl scout and then there are new recipes like s'mores and a traditional English fry-up. There are also new mechanics as well", said Spiteri and continued telling us more about the addition of a backpack.
"A new mechanic to the game is the use of backpacks: there will often be two backpacks in the level that have ingredients within them so rather than the ingredients just being in a box you're actually moving around with them on your back. That means if someone has the ingredient that you need, you have to run and try to get them or try to get them to come over to you so you have lots of people chasing each other around the level. It's just super-manic".
With Overcooked and its sequel being known to invoke passion and emotion, good and bad, we asked how the team feels about this fact.
"We feel a little bit of guilt, because we realise that we've caused quite a bit of arguments across the world now", Spiteri said and laughed, "I've even heard of a couple of break-ups that have happened because of the game but ultimately, when we set out to make Overcooked 2 we wanted to create an experience that does bring in good and bad ways so as long as people are gathered around a couch or playing with friends online, talking and actually working together I think we've kind of achieved our goal and then the rest is up to everyone. Hopefully, they're nice to each other".
Are you moving on over to the campground for some co-optional cooking when the DLC launches on April 18?
