Overcooked 2

Overcooked 2 devs on new mechanics coming to the sequel

"We've got travelators, we've got portals, we have moving platforms."

Overcooked 2 is the upcoming sequel to the local co-op cook 'em up by Ghost Town Games, which is heading to PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on August 7. With the game's release on the horizon, we caught up with developers Phil Duncan and Oli De-Vine and found out more about the new features coming to the game as it moves from the realm of local co-op into the online arena.

"One of the biggest mechanical changes is that we've added throwing, which allows you to throw raw ingredients to other players or straight into the pot [...] or there might be a divide in the level that you have to throw across," Duncan told Gamereactor.

"We've got travelators, we've got portals, we have moving platforms that you can actually control sections of the level, fires that create barriers - there's just so many more mechanics added."

One of the ways that the studio is going to make online multiplayer work for players who aren't talking is a new emotes system that should allow easier communication. Throw in some new chefs and a wonderfully zany backstory (players are up against "an army of unbread monsters" raised by the Onion King after reading a forbidden chapter in The Book of the Unbread) and you've got a potentially tasty multiplayer sequel in the oven.
