Outer Wilds is an Epic Games Store timed exclusive

Some fans have responded negatively towards the decision, with the crowdfunded game coming to "additional platforms" later.

The Epic Games Store has been getting exclusivity deals by the boatload over the last few months, with the infamous Metro Exodus deal being followed by a ton of others, and now Mobius Digital has revealed that their game - Outer Wilds - is being released as a timed exclusive on the platform as well.

"Outer Wilds will first be released on XBox One and on PC via the Epic Games Store, with additional platforms coming later. Rest assured that we read all of your comments and our goal is to bring the game to your preferred platform as quickly as possible. We will keep you up to date with the latest info here," the post reads.

This announcement was posted on Fig, since this was a crowdfunded game after all, accumulating $126,480 USD from almost 1,000 backers. This is part of the reason why the Epic Games Store exclusivity has gotten some fans upset though, because in the Fig page for the game elsewhere you can read the following statement:

"Currently, we're planning to release Outer Wilds on PC, Mac, and Linux through Steam next year. But our dream is to bring it to new platforms in as many languages as possible, and we need everyone's help to make that happen!"

This was pointed out by fans on ResetEra, with comments on Reddit and the Fig post itself reinforcing the negative views of many towards the deal.

REVIEW. Written by Kristian Greiner Ådnesen

"You don't play Outer Wilds for its characters or narrative, but for the fantastic adventure and all the wonderful places you get to explore."
