The now-Microsoft-owned studio is looking to recruit plenty of new talent for what sounds like an ambitious project.

The Outer Worlds will be leaving orbit next month, with Obsidian's sci-fi RPG set to land on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 25. That's not news, but what is interesting is the fact that the studio is already looking to stock up on talent for another game that recruiters at the company are calling "our next great multi-platform RPG".

Will that be a direct successor to The Outer Worlds, a totally new IP, or perhaps even something based on one of Microsoft's existing franchises? Obsidian has a long history of making games based on external IPs, such as Fallout: New Vegas and South Park: The Stick of Truth, so we wouldn't want to rule anything out following the developer's acquisition by MS.

Ultimately, we don't have a clue what they're planning, but thanks to these listings we do know a couple of things. As you might expect given their RPG pedigree, the studio is interested in people who know about branching dialogue and cutscenes, but the developer is also after people who specialise in high-quality melee combat, and they want a network programmer "to develop network and multiplayer gameplay systems using Unreal Engine".

You'll find the job listings here if you really want to dive into this one, otherwise, we'll just have to wait and see what the company is cooking up when Phil Spencer and friends are ready to show their collective hand.
