Ever since Sea of Thieves first released, Rare has been expanding it with constant updates, and the latest one is called Smuggler's Fortune. There's plenty to see here, but the highlights are pets, as you can have a monkey or parrot accompany you wherever you go, and dress them in costumes too.
You can get these buddies at the new Pirate Emporium, a store that only accepts Ancient Coins, which you can get by playing, but also by microtransactions. On the official homepage, Rare has written about this decision, and the Banjo-Kazooie Beard & Bird Ship Livery Set is also included.
"With Sea of Thieves having been live for 18 months now, the time feels right to finally add a premium store. It's an important step forward for us and will help ensure the game's long-term sustainability. That said, this wasn't a decision we made lightly, and we have tried to bring the Pirate Emporium to the game in a way that respects our players and community," Rare writes.
They also say that they were guided by three principles, these being transparency, fairness, and, most importantly, avoiding a pay-to-win system.
In this update you can also look forward to new Mercenary Voyages, as well as Ancient Skeletons, which are new enemies that carry the Ancient Coins previously mentioned. Then there's Duke's Black Market, a place where you can find stuff that looks similar to previously available things.
Which pet will you get?
