After a string of less-than-satisfactory results, Danish CS:GO team North has announced via Facebook that they are switching their roster up a bit, as René 'cajunb' Borg is being benched in favour of Daniel 'mertz' Mertz from their Academy side, a move that they say was done "after careful consideration and with full support from the team."

"I am honored to be given the opportunity to take a step up," mertz said. "This is the reason I joined North Academy and what I have been working so hard for in the last ten months. I am ready to give it my all and help North kick ass again."

Christian Sørensen, CEO of North, added: "Daniel has been a model professional since joining us in March, and he has thoroughly impressed both me, the coaching staff and the team with his play in 2017. Part of North's philosophy is to find players with potential and mold them so they can become elite competitors. Daniel embodies that more than anyone else, and we cannot wait to see him in action on the biggest stage".

"I would like to thank René for his hard work and dedication in the last year for North. We know him as a consistent performer, a great teammate and a true professional, but we ultimately felt that we needed to make this decision."

Director of esports Jonas Svendsen added that the priority for North is to win titles, which they have done in the past at DreamHack Montreal but have fallen short in other tournaments. He also acknowledges that the team is in a "build up phase", one that will take some time. For now, though, all we can do is wait to see mertz in action at the cs_summit 2 in February, which will be his first offline LAN tournament in the team.

Do you think cajunb is the right player to switch out?
