The latest news on Vatican City. Black smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel on Thursday morning, confirming that Catholic cardinals have not yet selected a successor to Pope Francis. The conclave, which began on Wednesday, will continue this afternoon with further ballots as the 133 eligible cardinals aim to secure a two-thirds majority.
