It was very much expected, especially following the lay-offs at Ghost Games UK. But following their latest financial statements EA announced that there will be no new Need for Speed game arriving in stores this fall. It marks the first time in 13 years this happens.
"Ghost Games in Gothenburg is working on an innovative new chapter of this storied franchise," said EA CEO Andrew Wilson. "We've planned an extended development window to ensure we're delivering a high-quality experience for Need for Speed players next year."
Of course, it used to be that studios alternated developing Need for Speed, so this extended window is actually the normal window only with no alternating studio doing this year's edition.
