This brings the full game into virtual reality so you can play alongside other players, with the aim being to deliver a "true VR experience rather than a port."

Hello Games didn't make it a secret that the Beyond update for No Man's Sky would be a big one, revealing it earlier this month in a manner similar to the Next update last year that eventually brought us elements like improved multiplayer, base building, and more. Sony's State of Play livestream revealed something very big though, which is the fact that the game is heading to virtual reality.

As Hello Games founder Sean Murray writes on the PlayStation Blog, Beyond is a free update coming this summer, bringing No Man's Sky Online to improve the multiplayer further, while VR is another component that aims to deliver "a true VR experience rather than a port."

In the VR world you can grab your joystick to fly your ship, reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, manipulate the terrain, and even play in multiplayer alongside your non-VR friends too. Murray makes clear that this isn't a separate mode either, but the entire game brought into the virtual space, including all content we've seen so far.

This sounds ambitious, and if anyone should know about the pitfalls of ambition and hype it's Hello Games. "The team is working so hard to live up to the expectations," Murray explains though, after saying that the free update will make this one of the most-owned VR titles around.

As if that wasn't enough, there's a third component to the Beyond package that we haven't even seen yet, with more details promised when the team is ready.

For now though, check out the VR trailer below, and while it's confirmed for PSVR, we also know it's coming to PC via SteamVR as well. Is this the right amount of ambitious?
