"We did not want to rush and offer an incomplete mode. It's better to take the time to do things right." It is with these words that Breakpoint Studio 's Etienne Jaquemin justified the absence of a double mode at the release of Tennis World Tour. Expected next May, the simulation will end seven years of hunger for fans of the sport. In fact, it's been seven long years since Top Spin 4 and Virtua Tennis 4 came out on consoles.

The creative director of the French studio has nevertheless stated that the doubles will be made available via an update shortly after launch.

"We hope to offer it in the days or weeks following the release. You know double it's a completely different game. Out of respect for the players, we must refine all aspects of our production. I am sure they will appreciate it. This will obviously be a free DLC."

Paid DLCs are also planned after the title is released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch. The Nintendo version will not sport the same resolution but will run in 60 fps, even in handheld mode. "Otherwise we would not see the ball, and it would not be fluid," says Jaquemain. Regarding the gameplay, it also seems more assisted, but no motion control, given that it is a simulation that aims for a realistic experience. As for the paid content that will be outlinedafter the release of the game, but the developer has things in mind.

"We would like to add an official grand slam tournament or other tournaments. We made the choice not to focus on this at first, especially as the amounts requested seemed out of our reach", producer Romain Ginocchio explained. "It probably won't be Wimbledon as we know the difficulty of reproducing the tournament on consoles mainly because of the lack of interest of the organisers."

Other paid DLC could also add additional players:

"We currently have only 5 women out of the 30 players that make up our current cast. It's not much and we'd like to add as soon as we have the opportunity."

Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, Garbiñe Muguruza, Madison Keys and Eugenie Bouchard are currently in the game. For men, all-time great Roger Federer will be the main headliner, but there will be several internationally renowned players, like Stanislas Wawrinka, David Goffin and Alexander Zverev. In general, Bigben Interactive has been smart with its choices since many players picked ahead of the development have performed well since then.

"When we asked him, Federer was only top 4, others like Goffin have come closer to the very best. Maybe our good star who is watching over us", laughs Etienne Jaquemain.

We will soon offer you our first impressions of Tennis World Tour, which we tried a few days ago in Paris.
