Nintendo's Takahashi teases a new Wave Race
Could Nintendo be returning to the franchise after a 17-year hiatus?
It may just be an innocent remark about a franchise most players will have forgotten or written off, but with E3 less than two months away, Nintendo has our attention. Shinya Takahashi, General Manager of the Entertainment Planning & Development Division and a member of the Board of Directors at Nintendo, isn't your average Nintendo executive either, so his word those hold some weight.
Speaking to Fandom at the BAFTA Awards in London a few days ago, Takahashi said with a smile on his face that "you may see that game again", when asked about Wave Race. He was director of Wave Race 64 and started on the sequel, Wave Race: Blue Storm, for GameCube. "We have been trying to make many games and that may be one of them ... I personally love Wave Race!", added Takahashi.
Wave Race: Blue Storm is the third and latest game of the series. Potentially we could see the franchise return with a new entry or perhaps Nintendo could look into releasing one of the old games on Nintendo Switch eShop.
