Today we reported on the benefits of a Nintendo Switch Online membership, including save data cloud backups and access to a library of classic games enhanced with online functions, plus other services like online gaming and voice chat with friends, all for a monthly fee. After this announcement came more talk of a potential Virtual Console on the new system, but when Kotaku passed the question over to Nintendo of America, it wasn't the answer people wanted to hear.

"There are currently no plans to bring classic games together under the Virtual Console banner as has been done on other Nintendo systems," said a spokesperson to stop the hype. "There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch, such as through Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo eShop or as packaged collections. Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online will provide a fun new way to experience classic NES games that will be different from the Virtual Console service, thanks to enhancements such as added online play, voice chat via the Nintendo Switch Online app and the various play modes of Nintendo Switch."

Nintendo will offer 20 games at the beginning of the Switch Online service and will add more eventually, but when asked if there will be titles from other systems joining the promo, the spokesperson replied that there's nothing to announce at this moment.
