Much to the surprise of those who expected it sooner, it was recently revealed that the Nintendo NX will be launching in March 2017. Since then, during a recent investor briefing, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima was asked whether the new hardware would sell at a loss, similar to what happened with the WiiU.
Kimishima responded by saying: "we are not thinking of launching the hardware at a loss. When Wii U was launched, the yen was very strong. I am assuming that situation will not repeat itself. Selling at a loss at launch would not support the business, so we are keeping that mind in developing NX."
Naturally there's plenty of speculation regarding the company's next home console, in particular concerning the price tag and the power of the NX.
When questioned about the software coming to the console at launch, Kimishima said: "One of the reasons for choosing the launch timing that we did is so that the software lineup will be ready in time for the hardware launch. Not only at launch, but we also need to be able to continuously release titles after launch. We are planning for this to be a platform that consumers can enjoy for a long time."
As mentioned before, the NX is set to launch in March of next year, but it won't be appearing at E3 2016, with the Kyoto-based company instead deciding to focus all their efforts on The Legend of Zelda Wii U while in LA. The next game in the Zelda series has also been confirmed as heading to NX next year.
