Satoru Iwata has announced he won't be attending Nintendo's Annual General Meeting for shareholders, which is due to be held this month, because of the recent surgery that also saw him miss out on E3 this year.

Iwata sufferend from a growth in his bile duct. It was successfully removed but he hasn't fully recovered yet.

"As the president of the company, I regret that I cannot attend the meeting. However, I understand that I have to prioritize my medical treatment and to recover as soon as possible so that I will again be able to do my best to help the company to grow," Iwata wrote to shareholders.

Some analysts have questioned Iwata's position at the top of the company after mild reception for the Wii U. In theory, shareholders could force him to step down, but considering his medical condition that may seem too harsh for now.
