For those of you who may have missed it, CD Projekt Red's new RPG game, Cyberpunk 2077, is inspired by a pen and paper RPG called Cyberpunk 2020. Many fans of the original game have wondered if the Polish studio's next work has points of contact with it, starting from its timeline, but recently an erroneous interpretation of an interview reported by SegmentNext challenged that aspect.
Following this misunderstanding, Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2020's creator and consultant at CD Projekt for this game, denied this information, confirming that Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk 2077 do, in fact, share the same timeline:
"There's still an incorrect interview floating around the interwebs that states that Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk 2020 are separate timelines. To clear this up, I am posting RIGHT HERE AND NOW that the timeline is unified...." Pondsmith wrote in his post on Cyberpunk 2077's subreddit.
Cyberpunk 2077 is expected on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, although the launch date has not yet been announced.
