Kingdom Hearts III's Critical mode is landing today

The new difficulty level arrives on April 23, but it will differ from previous iterations (although we're not entirely sure how just yet).

A new update containing the Critical mode seen in older KH titles is arriving in the next Kingdom Hearts III update. Assuming the mode follows a similar path to how it appeared previously, it will essentially work as a more challenging difficulty mode.

Featured in most entries in the franchise, Critical mode represents the hardest difficulty available and has, in the past, contained modifiers such as more damage taken from enemies and less HP gains, among other variables.

The mode will arrive on all platforms the game released on, and it will be part of a free update. However, Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura stated: "We've changed things up from the previous games, so I hope you enjoy".

As vague as this is, it opens the door to some other potential changes for the new mode. More enemies on screen, or fewer abilities/weapons perhaps? Anything is possible but everyone remains tight-lipped over at Square Enix, at least until the update drops later today (April 23).

What changes are you hoping for in the Critical mode this time around?
