Liberated is a game bringing comic storytelling to life

Atomic Wolf has partnered with L.inc and Walkabout Games to reveal Liberated, a game that the press release describes as a "playable tech-noir graphic novel" that will launch later this year on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.

"Classic motion comic storytelling" mixes in with playable action sections, and the game was a finalist at the 2019 SXSW Gaming Pitch event. In Liberated we can see a world where authorities use technology to control the population, including intense surveillance of location, payments, and social media activity.

We'll get to see both sides of the conflict over four chapters, including the fight for freedom, and there will choices to make that will branch the narrative. As for the playable sections, these include stealth, 2.5D platforming, shootouts, and more, blending the two mediums as you jump between these sequences and the comic.

"The way technology is being used to aid government control has changed drastically in the 21st century and we wanted to explore the dangers of where it's seemingly headed," said Marek Czerniak, Creative Director at Atomic Wolf. "Liberated explores this in a nuanced, pragmatic way, with a stylish blend of motion comics and gameplay that keeps things brisk, stylish, and on the edge of your seat!"

"When we first saw what Liberated was up to we were instantly hooked!" added Robert Purzycki, co-founder of Walkabout. "It's exploring real issues that we grapple with every day as we wrestle with both the advantages and perils of technology, social media, and the stranglehold corporations have over us. We think it's one of the most thought-provoking games on the horizon and can't wait to hear players discuss it!"
