Report: Assassin's Creed is heading into the Viking Age

The next Assassin's Creed will not be heading to Rome as some thought, instead, Ubisoft will let us be Vikings.

We've finally entered April, which means that it's time for the traditional Assassin's Creed leak, however, it should be said that Ubisoft took care of this one all by itself.

We say that because we aren't the only ones who've noticed some peculiar posters and hidden artifacts in The Division 2, as several players, including JorRaptor, have posted images of a very interesting poster found in the game. Said poster shows a man in what can only be described as clothing from the Viking Age and has the word Valhalla written on it.

That wouldn't necessarily be worth mentioning if it wasn't for the fact that this person is also holding what seems to be the Assassin's Creed franchise's Apple of Eden. Could this be Ubisoft just having fun mixing some of its franchises again or one of the French company's teases for an upcoming game? We can confirm that it's the latter.

When we reported that Watch Dogs 3 will be set in London we also reiterated that the rumours of the next Assassin's Creed game being set in Rome were false. That's because multiple sources have independently confirmed to us that next year's Assassin's Creed, codenamed Kingdom, will be set in the Viking Age. Kotaku's Jason Schreier has heard the same from two of his sources.

Ubisoft Montreal is the lead studio on the project, and we're told that they're looking into making the combat more brutal and include supernatural powers inspired by the gods of Norse Mythology. Naval combat will also return, but they hope to have more realistic destruction thanks to the game also coming to the next generation of consoles in the fall of 2020.
