Oddworld is a rather unique series that has spanned various platforms, with Abe's Exodus and Oddysee coming out in the late '90s and other titles like Munch's Oddysee and New 'n' Tasty following in the years since. At the Unity Technologies keynote from the Game Developer Conference (GDC) though, we got to see a teaser trailer for the new game Oddworld: Soulstorm, coming our way in 2020.
As you might imagine given where it appeared, Unity makes the visuals possible for the game, hence why we also have another two videos showing a breakdown of the effects used in the cinematic teaser, as well as how the Shaman character is rendered using the High Definition Render Pipeline, Post Processing stack V2, and Sub Surface Scattering shaders.
For more on the game check out the official website, which tells us that it's a new narrative based on the original story from Abe over 20 years ago. It's also described as "a big visual and cinematic leap aiming to break new ground for Oddworld," featuring "intelligent new mechanics, twisted new devices enabling highly explosive deviousness." Much like with the original games too, this is meant to be a parable telling of a society pushed to the brink.
