Facebook and its related apps like Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, suffered severe outages yesterday when disruption lasted for over 14 hours on all platforms, but in a statement issued on Twitter, Facebook declared that this was not the result of a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.
As reported by the BBC, this was the largest outage for the network since 2008 and affected sending messages, images, loading posts, and more. Since then service has been restored, as revealed by the likes of Instagram.
NBC's Raj Mathai took to Twitter to claim the issue was "due to database problems," and that an alleged insider source said "We are racing to spin up new machines as others go down. Mostly resolved... but it takes time."
