Epic Games, developer of massively popular battle royale Fortnite, has recently announced that an 'undo' button is on its way to the game. Revealed by an Epic developer in a Reddit thread, the feature is being implemented because Epic doesn't want to add friction for players nor profit from accidental purchases.
The initial solution for the situation was a token system that would allow players to refund a certain number of items a year. However, the developer has since stated that the next iteration of the feature will "introduce an undo button to the store page that allows you to easily refund without using up a token within a five-minute window, assuming you haven't started a match since the purchase".
This new feature has been much-anticipated as previously players who wanted a refund would have to go through a process that would require people to give up information on their IP address to a customer service correspondent. In turn, this is somewhat ironic as the Japanese version of the game already has a refund feature in place. Epic stated that the reason that Fortnite in Japan did have these features but other regions didn't was because "PlayStation 4 in Japan is a bit of a special case due to X/ O buttons being swapped by default and there also being options to reverse the meanings of the buttons".
Why exactly this meant that the rest of the world couldn't have a functioning refund button before now is not entirely clear, however the fact that one is coming is at least a positive. Until the feature is implemented, be sure to take a look at latest changes being made to the popular battle royale, including the addition of a new hamster ball-like vehicle.
Do you think the undo button will be good for the health of Fortnite in the future?
