Bend Studio's Days Gone is due for release exclusively on PS4 on April 26, but we recently got to test the game out for ourselves during a preview event. Here we got to speak with animator Emmanuel Roth, who told us about their approach to the open world and how it treats Deacon.

"Because we are Bend Studio we like to tell big stories, single-player, story-driven games. It's what we like to do," he told us. "We also decided to make the open world because we believe that open world has something to tell. The world is first beautiful, it's a beautiful landscape, a lot of variation, very interesting, but at the same time it's dangerous."

"So every element of the game is dangerous and we want the player to feel it. We throw at you animals that will chase you when you're on your bike, we will have the weather change when you're riding your motorcycle, so suddenly you have to fight the driving. All [those] elements that we want players to experience."

For more on the narrative, Deacon's background, and how you can upgrade the game's protagonist, be sure to check out the full interview below, as well as our preview text based on our time in Days Gone. Don't forget we also have brand new gameplay here too.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Oregon. The story was interesting, the setting compelling, and the gameplay systems worked well together."
