Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 triples sales of Black Ops 3 on PC

In fact, Black Ops 4 sold better than 3 overall, and helped drive Activision's 53 million Monthly Active Users for Q4 2018.

Activision Blizzard has been on everyone's lips today, as we've only just found out that they're restructuring, resulting in around 800 jobs being laid off, but now their recent earnings report for their Q4 2018 - ending on December 31 - has revealed even more key details about their year-end.

This quarter is important in no small part due to the fact that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launched in October, again cementing itself as the number-one selling console franchise worldwide for the year, something that's been done nine years out of the last 10. In its launch quarter Black Ops 4 also sold more than Black Ops 3, more than tripling the PC units too.

Downloads of the game made up more than 40% of Black Ops 4's console sell-through as well, compared to 30% for WWII which was released in 2017.

This no doubt helped make up a significant chunk of the 53 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs) Activision reported for the quarter, "growing double-digits quarter-over-quarter." It also helped grow Q4 revenues 6% year-on-year, reaching $1.41 billion USD while operating income increased 14% year-on-year to $723 million.
