Epic vice president congratulates Apex Legends, deletes tweet

In a bizarre series of events the executive extended well wishes to the Fortnite competitor, and then removed the tweet.

We've seen a lot of friendly banter between big companies in the games industry before, whether it's gentle teasing over an unpopular decision, or just congratulating each other on big announcements and releases, but the latest exchange between an Epic Games executive and Respawn's CEO Vince Zampella has left people scratching their heads.

You see, Epic's vice president Mark Rein was asked by a Twitter user what his opinion on Apex Legends was, to which he said: "I like it. Very well done!" The trouble is that this tweet has since been deleted for some reason, although thanks to a screenshot from DualShockers we can still see it.

Respawn's CEO Vince Zampella then responded with: "Means a lot coming from you Mark! I believe I owe you drinks next time we meet up!" At this point Rein also fired back with: "I will enjoy that!", except this tweet wasn't deleted.

What does this all mean though? Some have speculated that the tweet was removed because of how Apex Legends is considered a major competitor for Epic's Fortnite, as they both exist in the battle royale genre and Respawn's game has already proved itself to be extremely popular. After all, it did gather 10 million players in 72 hours, and in less than a week has generated a lot of buzz around the industry, including with top streamers.
