Over the Top are back with Million to One Hero

It's been a while since we last heard about Over the Top Games, the Madrid-based studio that made a name for itself with NyxQuest on the Wii and then continued with Full Mojo Rampage. For two years they've been working on a new project that they've at last unveiled along with a trailer and some intel, as Million to One Hero is a 2D platformer including pre-built missions, but also a tool for users to unleash their creativity.

They also go back to their classical cultural roots, this time with a main character named Épicus who aspires to become the greatest hero of all time (but apparently his statue in the town square will be fine as well), and with Chronos, the god of time, monitoring his adventure there'll be skill, speed and puzzle-based levels, all presented in 2D and pixel-art style.

The twist here is a nod to Super Mario Maker and the likes, games in which the community ended up surpassing the original developers in terms of both quantity and quality. Over the Top says its creation toolset is more than just a level editor, as it's "everything you need to build a complete game" starting from the basic visual template. In fact, you can "create quests, character dialogues or cinematic cutscenes, or even change music or weather for each level".

All the footage included in the Million to One Hero trailer below has been created with the in-game editor itself, while the screenshots show the editor's layout and how it works. Once created, levels can be shared for other users to enjoy, vote or speedrun so as to climb up the leaderboards.

Million to One Hero will be soon available on Steam's Early Access for Windows PC, Linux, and Mac, but the studio will look at more platforms in the future.
