Mortal Kombat 11 unveiled with first gameplay

WWE star and former UFC champ Ronda Rousey confirmed as Sonya Blade, new and returning fighters detailed, beta date revealed and more.

During the Mortal Kombat 11 reveal livestream we got to see the fighting game in action in a new trailer featuring original music track created in collaboration with DJ, Dimitri Vegas, titled "You're Next."

"We're thrilled to showcase Mortal Kombat 11 and reveal the gameplay, new features and epic characters to the fans," said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. "We have an amazing community, and it's an honor to share this celebration of the Mortal Kombat franchise with all of our passionate fans around the world."

Mortal Kombat 11 will also feature a Story Mode with a time-bending narrative and a female boss protagonist, Kronika, the Keeper of Time and creator of existence. We got a first glimpse of the Story in a Prologue Trailer.

Some fan-favourite fighters will return in Mortal Kombat 11, including Baraka, Skarlet, Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Sonya Blade. We also got to see a new character, called Geras, a loyal servant of Kronika, who can manipulate time. During the event, as rumoured, Sonya Blade will be voiced by current WWE star, former UFC champion, and actor Ronda Rousey.

"I've been a lifelong Mortal Kombat fan, and Sonya Blade was the first kick-ass, female video game character that I related to," said Ronda Rousey. "Now I get to voice her in Mortal Kombat 11. It's a dream come true to be a part of the Mortal Kombat franchise that I grew up playing."

Player who pre-order Mortal Kombat 11 on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will receive access to the beta, which will launch on March 28, 2019. Also, pre-orders will receive Shao Kahn as a playable character. Finally, a Kollector's Edition was revealed, including the game, a Kombat Pack, a Scorpion Mask bust, Steelcase, magnet coin and authenticity plate.

Mortal Kombat 11 releases April 23 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. We're getting some conflicting reports on the launch date of the Switch version in Europe may have been pushed to May, but for now, the official word is still that it will release on the same day.
