Update: We've tweaked the article as it originally stated that the release was in February, which is incorrect. Apologies.
Original: It's been a while since we heard about The Hong Kong Massacre, which is set to hit PlayStation 4 and PC, but now we've gotten some concrete details. The grizzly shooter (which has a top-down view like the one in Hotline Miami) now has a release date of January 22.
Despite the simplicity of the top-down perspective, the THKM seems to spare no expense in providing an immersive experience with some decent visuals. Anders Flodihn, the game's designer, explained on the PlayStation Blog that this was their goal when they opted for a 3D engine:
"Our first prototype of the game was made in a 2D engine using simple 2D graphics. The game worked quite well at this stage but we thought that the genre and theme we were aiming for would benefit from using a 3D engine instead", he wrote before adding that "the benefits would be a more immersive world using destructions and physics to help simulate the chaotic nature of the gunfights that we aimed for."
The game promises to be plenty explosive. It will also use slow motion and a dodge mechanic "similar to the ones seen in Max Payne games", to improve the player's chances of surviving during battles. See it in action below.
