Red Dead Online's Gun Rush mode lands with new update

We'll see plenty more this year as well, including deeper story and competitive content, alongside this new battle royale mode.

Red Dead Redemption 2's Online mode has been active for a while, but now is the time for Rockstar Games to announce a battle royale mode for the beta, called Gun Rush, which sees 32 players fight it out against one another to be the last one standing in an always-shrinking map.

Alongside this update, Rockstar released a press release on their official website which announced additional updates that will be added to the beta soon. These include:

  • Daily challenges, which range from sharp shooting to evading the law.

  • Changes to the way Law and Bounty systems work to reduce griefing. Players will get a bounty for committing crimes and be incentivized to pay them off, otherwise they'll be pursued by bounty hunters.

  • Tweaking the Parley system so that it's easier to trigger. This should mean you can avoid aggressive players quicker. This will also make it easier to trigger feuds, posse feuds and leader feuds to take on attacking players in structured competition.

  • Proximity-based players bips will only over short distances., reducing the range that you are visible to other players and decreasing the chances that you'll be targeted by other players across a large area. Rockstar are also planning on adding a way to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a darkening blip that is more visible at a longer range.

They also released information on updates they're planning to release later this year. Story-wise, new missions to build on your story in A Land Of Opportunities will be added in 2019, including pre-established characters like Horley and Jessica LeClerk alongside other new characters we haven't seen yet.

They're also planning on adding dynamic events to the Online mode, as well as more competitive content like extra Showdown modes and races. Alongside gameplay additions, there will also be new weapons and clothing released later this year, and other features that they aren't ready to announce yet.

For Xbox One players, the new update will grant them items that were previously exclusive to PS4, these being the new Red Chestnut Arabian Horse, Alligator Skin Ranch Cutter Saddle, and the High Roller Double-Action Revolver.
