Square Enix confirmed extensive plans to republish old titles on new platforms last year, and they will deliver on that promise in the coming months, as we now know that Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age are set to launch in April on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. The HD collection of the two FFX games is scheduled for April 16, while FFXII will follow two weeks later, on April 30.

Final Fantasy X released on PlayStation 2 in 2001, followed by its direct sequel that continued the story of Tidus and Yuna two years later. Thanks to their emotional adventure a lot of players have good memories of the game, which led to solid sales of the HD Collection when it released in 2013.

Final Fantasy XII (2006) received attention due to its political background, as well as its advanced gambit combat system. Nearly two years after the (re)release of The Zodiac Age on the PlayStation 4 in 2017, Square Enix is extending the game's audience to other platforms. On top of that, the title was ported to PC last February too, so its popularity is enduring.

Although neither Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster nor Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age are particularly fresh, players on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One should find themselves well entertained with these classics if they have yet to play them. New versions of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX are also expected this year too, so fans of the series have a lot to look forward to.

Designer Akihiko Yoshida (responsible for several Final Fantasy games, the 3DS' Bravely-series, and Nier: Automata) presented a wonderful piece of artwork for this announcement, which you can see below.
