Since the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the series has grown to become an industry giant, with yearly releases making millions upon millions of dollars. While Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 may have delivered a flat growth rate, the amount of money each game makes every year is still staggering, as is proven by a new comparison to Hollywood blockbusters.

GamesIndustry.biz - who has insight into the nuts and bolts of the business - has examined the combined earnings of each and every Call of Duty series entry, and compared it to another media giant, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The result is profound, and they wrote the following on Twitter:

"Call of Duty has made more money than the box office takings of the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and double that of Star Wars."

We always knew that there was big money in games, but this just goes to give a little perspective into just how big Call of Duty as a brand is, and heightens our curiosity for the next entry, which may be Modern Warfare 4 with battle royale featured again.

Does this comparison surprise you?
