Valve discloses odds for lootboxes in Dota 2

Valve has decided to show the odds for items players can get from lootboxes in Dota 2, as introduced after the MOBA got new item bundles. The company offers "escalating odds" for the rarer items, meaning players can increase their chances by purchasing more loot boxes.

"We've also taken this opportunity to simplify and rework the way we calculate escalating odds for this treasure and going forward," Valve writes. "You can now click on the escalating odds arrow next to each of the rare, very rare, or extremely rare drops to see the exact odds of receiving them based on how many you've already opened."

Earlier this year Valve already gave Dutch Dota 2 players the option to look inside the loot boxes before purchasing, and they're not the only company disclosing odds for loot boxes. Psyonix, for example, added the option to Rocket League this year, and EA added the odds in FIFA 19 for FUT Packs, following on from legal questions raised over their links to gambling.
